Kanye West just dropped the first single of Cruel Winter on Big Boy’s 92.3, which as Big Boy correctly points out “captures magic in a bottle.” Kanye didn’t mess around and recruited Gucci Mane, Big Sean, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, Travi$ Scott, Quavo, and his newest G.O.O.D. music signing Desiigner on the track that is so new, it doesn’t even have an official title yet. “I had the basic beat for a year and a half. It sounded right for this project,”Kanye told Big Boy. “This is the hook we should have for the first single.”
Speaking on collaborations, Kanye told Big Boy, that “a lot of times it’s just the energy in the studio, whoever is coming by. And then we get to talk about who would sound nice on the track.”
Big Boy also took the opportunity to question Kanye about his now-infamous “Famous” lyric aimed at Taylor Swift. When asked if he really talked to Swift, Kanye responded, “Yes, I told her we were going to say that. I didn’t tell her— I asked her how she felt about it.” However, Kanye still feels resolute in saying what he wants because he firmly believes in the expression of music. “Music is all we got. It’s our only opportunity to fully express ourselves.”
Recently, footage of Kanye and Big Sean’s studio session surfaced online through Sean’s Snapchat story, although it was unclear what the two are working on. Now, it’s likely that they were actually finishing up work on the track that Kanye dropped today.
The track had to just be finished considering Gucci Mane’s involvement. Gucci got out of prison just over a week ago and already has his own track that was streamed over 1 million times in one day in addition to a feature on Kanye’s track.
Throughout his morning on Big Boy’s show, Kanye had his usual relentless energy and ripped into the radio with excitement about his position in the industry. “You need a guy like me in the game! You need someone who is not watered down… I’m still Ye! They tried to beat me down!…I’m not a bad person, I’ll just tell you my truth now.” Big Boy also asked if Kanye checks what people say about him on websites, to which he admitted he checks them all the time because people have the funniest comments about him. When asked if anything said ever bothers him, a long pause hung in in the air until he replied with a big “Nah…For me, I feel like the words can’t hurt me…they just don’t understand my intentions. It’s a misunderstanding.”
Kanye also revealed some important things during his time on the show including the fact that there will be a 12-15 minute version of Desiigner’s breakout “Panda” that will feature every G.O.O.D. music artist. He also might have let it slip that there is a tour coming when talking about the future. ‘Ye kind of glossed over the subject until later in the interview when he confirmed that there will be a worldwide tour that he believes will kick off in September. Most importantly, he noted that there are already seven to eight Cruel Winter tracks that are finished. Kanye has definitely been busy lately and undoubtedly has more things cooking, but nothing is more exciting than the impending arrival of Cruel Winter.
